labor day

Photobucket

It seemed that this summer had slipped by without a backpacking trip for the littlest one in our family.
Chris was feeling bad that all the trips had been too difficult for Austin and he hadn't had a chance to go this year.
So he took advantage of the day off and took his little buddy on a quick overnight backpacking adventure.
Just the two of them.
Austin was thrilled.

They got there a bit late in the evening and I think Austin got kinda spooked hiking to the lake in the dark.
So they camped in a nice meadow along the way.
It got very cold and they woke up with frost covering everything.
Brrr.
But Austin said he was toasty warm.
He caught lots of frogs and loved his time with dad.
Chris has been super crazy busy the past few weeks, so I don't think this was easy to do.
But probably just what he needed, too.
What a great dad.

I spent a fun day with my older kids, their friends, Kathryn, and my sister's family.
We played, picnicked, and hiked at Camel's Back Park.
And ate delicious ice cream afterward.
Then we came home and I watched Apollo 13 with Carson and Carlie.
I thought Carson was missing everything because he spent for-EVER trying to get it straight which guy was the one who had to stay home because of the measles. (They all looked the same to him. He only recognized Tom Hanks. Not because he has been in tons of movies, but because his voice is Woody in Toy Story and also the conductor in Polar Express.)
Anyway, I guess I was wrong because the movie ended and the credits started to roll -
And Carson firmly stated, "That was incredible."

I just love my family.
